Under Investigation

HOUSTON, Texas — A high-speed collision on the North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) resulted in one fatality early Saturday morning, according to Houston police. The crash occurred around 2 a.m. at the 13800 block of the freeway on April 13.

The deceased, a 33-year-old male, has not been identified pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Sudduth and Officer R. Guzman, a Houston Fire Department ambulance, with its emergency lights activated, had stopped in a southbound lane of the freeway to attend to an unrelated crash.

A silver Toyota Rav4, traveling at a high rate of speed, collided with the rear of the ambulance before striking a concrete barrier. The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the ambulance personnel were injured in the crash.
