As Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal lodged in Tihar jail, his wife Sunita Kejriwal on Wednesday met the party’s candidates from Jalandhar and Ludhiana parliamentary constituencies and MLAs from Assembly constituencies falling under these two LS seats in Delhi.
Sources said AAP Ludhiana candidate Ashok Pappi Parashar and Jalandhar candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu met her separately along with MLAs from their respective constituencies.
It is learnt that Sunita asked them to put up a strong fight and win as many seats as possible to strengthen the AAP and rout the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is targeting opposition parties and honest leaders like Kejriwal. “She told us that every worker mattered and we should make sure that we took them along and put up a strong fight,” said a party source.
She is also learnt to have told MLAs from Jalandhar to accept and support Tinu, a turncoat, as the party has to field winnable candidates in the prevailing scenario.
Sunita is likely to be AAP’s star campaigner and will visit Punjab in the coming days to campaign for the party candidates.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has called all 13 candidates at Mohali club for a meeting on Thursday.
A show of strength will also be there, with MLAs being asked to send 100 people each for the CM’s meeting.
