Shots were fired in the 18200 block of Lincoln Avenue in Parker around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

PARKER, Colo. — Hours after Parker Police got a call about a possibly suicidal man who had access to weapons, that man fired shots at a vehicle and then took his own life, a department spokesman said on Thursday.

Around 2 a.m. Wednesday, a concerned family member contacted police about the man. That person said they believed the man had left his Aurora home and was headed to Parker to contact the victim whose vehicle he later shot at.

Throughout the day Wednesday, police attempted to find the man by pinging his cellphone and using license plate reader data. They also shared the man's information with neighboring jurisdictions.

The man fled from Parker Police officers and officers from a neighboring jurisdiction multiple times before there was a report of shots fired around 8 p.m. in the 18200 block of Lincoln Avenue, near the intersection with Twenty Mile Road, police said.

At that time, someone called 911 to report that the man fired multiple shots into the victim's vehicle before returning to his own car.

When police arrived, they found the man dead from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No one else was physically injured, and the man is the only person believed to have fired any shots, police said.

Due to the public nature of the incident, Parker Police noted that they have support services available for witnesses and victims. Anyone who needs assistance can call the Parker Police Victim's Advocates Office.

Anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken with police is asked to call the Parker Police Department's non-emergency line at 303-841-9800.

The Douglas County Coroner's Office will release the suspect's identification.
