No injuries reported in South Overton quadraplex blaze, Lubbock Fire Rescue says

Lubbock firefighters battle a structure fire early Sunday morning near 18th Street and Avenue S.

A structure fire early Sunday in the South Overton neighborhood caused no injuries but left a vacant quadraplex heavily damaged.

Lubbock Fire Rescue was dispatched to 18th Street and Avenue S around 1 a.m. Sunday after multiple 911 callers reported a structure fire at that location, which is near Lubbock High School. When firefighters arrived, they reported heavy fire conditions with flames coming through the roof of the building, according to LFR.

"Crews quickly prepared for defensive fire operations, meaning crews would not make entry into the structure and attempt to extinguish the fire from the outside," reads a statement from LFR. "Crews would remain defensive until it was deemed safe by the incident commander to make entry into the structure."

Firefighters were eventually able to extinguish the blaze with no injuries reported, as all four units in the complex were unoccupied, LFR said. The Lubbock Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.
