FRANKLIN, La. (KADN) — The search is underway for the driver of an 18-wheeler that sideswiped a school bus packed with students.

Fortunately, neither the bus driver nor any students were injured.

The bus only got minor damage to the driver's side but the mishap was an afternoon scare for the driver and students.

Loren Decuir, director of V. B. Glencoe Charter School in Franklin said the crash happened along LA 83 and Cypremort Road when the bus driver was dropping off students.

"An 18-wheeler sideswiped the bus, damaging a mirror on the side and didn't stop," said Decuir.

At the time, the bus driver hadn't made any stops, so there were 60 kids onboard. Fortunately, no one on the bus was hurt.

Decuir added once faculty was notified, action was taken immediately.

"But we did transfer the students from one bus to another to get them to Baldwin Civic Center, where their parents met them there," she explained.

The crash was a reminder that student safety can be jeopardized at any moment.

"It was a very loud sound. It was very startling to our bus driver and our students. Of course, we always want to make sure that our students are safe first and foremost, and so, we jumped into action to make sure that was the case," described Decuir.

She also said the bus driver is still working and will be able to use another bus until the mirror is fixed.
