Jefferies' body was discovered behind a dumpster near Pine Street and Eastmoreland Avenue on December 12, 2021.

Prosecutors said that Summers and Jefferies shared an apartment and that Summers hit Jefferies over the head with a hammer while the 63-year-old man slept one night.

After the attack, the district attorney's office claimed that Summers cut Jefferies head off with a knife, cleaned up the scene and then stuffed Jefferies' body into a suitcase.

Video surveillance showed Summers dragging the suitcase through the Broadmoor Apartments, leaving a trail of blood behind him, according to prosecutors.

The DA's office said that Summers admitted to the murder 16 days later.
