Ohio man accused of fatally shooting 15-year-old daughter, blaming it on autistic son

DAYTON, Ohio — Police say a 38-year-old Dayton man is in custody after he fatally shot his 15-year-old daughter and blamed it on his autistic son.

Kenneth Farler III is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on charges of murder, having weapons under disability and probation violations, according to jail records. No bond has been set.

Police tell WHIO Channel 7 the shooting occurred in an apartment at about 12:20 p.m. Sunday. The teen girl was found dead at the scene, WDTN Channel 2 reports.

WHIO obtained a 911 call connected to the shooting in which a man who identifies himself as the teen victim’s father tells the dispatcher that his 15-year-old autistic son had accidentally fired a weapon and shot the girl.

“My stepson, he’s autistic, he had no, it was an accident ma’am. He’s autistic he had no (expletive) idea what he was doing,” the man can be heard saying in the call, according to WHIO. Reports say a gunshot can be heard during the 911 call.

Reports say investigators later determined Farler had shot his daughter, but no other details were released. The shooting remains under investigation.
