Portland City Council to reconsider Mayor Wheeler's revised public camping ban model

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The Portland City Council will discuss Mayor Ted Wheeler's new version of a public camping ban on Thursday.

A judge put the last one on hold. The mayor wants to repeal the previous code and replace it with new regulations.

Wheeler says he wants to refocus the rules for people who have alternate shelter or decline an offer of shelter.

He also wants to reduce criminal sanctions and replace warnings with diversion.
