Amtrak train and car collide in Slidell
Slidell police say a crash happened Monday morning involving an Amtrak train and a car at the intersection of Gause Boulevard (Highway 190) and Front Street (Highway 11).
Slidell PD says the driver told them that the train was approaching, and the car accidentally shifted into the "park" position, preventing it from moving.
Police say there is no evidence to show if the driver drove around the crossing arms.
The Amtrak was traveling northbound when it collided with the car. None of the passengers on the train were injured.
The occupants in the car were transported to a local hospital and minor injuries were reported.
SPD says the railroad crossing arms are damaged and there is no time frame for when they will be repaired.
SPD wants drivers to be cautious when using the crossing and check both ways for approaching trains.
This is an ongoing investigation.
