THIS IS KOCO FIVE NEWS AT FIVE. THE FATHER OF A FOUR MONTH OLD BABY ARRESTED AND ACCUSED OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER. WE WANT TO WARN YOU. THESE DETAILS ARE DISTURBING. THEY ARE GRAPHIC. IF YOU DO HAVE KIDS IN THE ROOM RIGHT NOW, YOU MIGHT CONSIDER TELLING THEM TO LEAVE. AND THAT’S WHERE WE’RE BEGINNING TONIGHT. I’M EVAN ONSTOT. HELLO TO YOU. I’M JESSICA SCHAMBACH. THIS ARREST CAME ONE MONTH AFTER POLICE SAY THEY GOT A CALL IN NORTH OKLAHOMA CITY THAT THE BABY WAS NOT BREATHING AGAIN. WE DO WANT TO WARN YOU, THESE DETAILS ARE VERY DISTURBING. THEY’RE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR KIDS. KOCO ELISE JONES HAS THE LATEST FROM POLICE. THE MAN RESPONSIBLE FOR CARING FOR A FOUR MONTH OLD BABY. NOW BEHIND BARS HERE AT THE OKLAHOMA COUNTY JAIL ON A $5 MILLION BOND AND COURT DOCUMENTS REVEAL THE DISTURBING DETAILS OF THAT BABY’S SHORT LIFE. I WAS MARCH 5TH THAT POLICE RESPONDED TO AN APARTMENT COMPLEX. THIS WAS IN NORTH OKLAHOMA CITY ON REPORTS OF AN INFANT NOT BREATHING. ONE MONTH AGO, POLICE RESPONDED TO THIS APARTMENT ON MAY AND NORTHWEST 50TH. THE BABY INSIDE RUSHED TO A HOSPITAL WHERE HE DIED, COURT DOCUMENTS SAY. THE FATHER OF THE BABY REPEATED, IT’S ALL MY FAULT. WHILE IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM, DOCUMENTS SAY THE FATHER WAS ALONE WITH THE BABY AT HOME AND FORGOT TO CHECK ON HIM WHEN HE REMEMBERED, THE DAD TOLD POLICE THE BABY WAS COLD AND NOT BREATHING, BUT HE DIDN’T CALL 911 FOR NEARLY AN HOUR. THROUGH THE INVESTIGATION, POLICE LEARNED THAT THERE WERE SOME INJURIES ON THE CHILD. CONSISTENT WITH SOME CHILD ABUSE, DOCUMENTS SAY THE DAD BLAMED THESE INJURIES ON THE BABY ROLLING OFF THE COUCH AND FALLING BACKWARD ON A PLAY MAT. BUT THE MEDICAL EXAMINER REPORTED MULTIPLE FRACTURES AND HEMORRHAGES, SAYING THE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA. ONE DOCTOR AT OU CHILDREN’S TOLD INVESTIGATORS THAT THE DEATH COULDN’T BE AN ACCIDENT, BUT WAS CAUSED BY SLAMMING THE BABY ON A HARD SURFACE, SAYING THE BABY LIKELY DIED WITHIN FIVE MINUTES OF THE INJURIES. KOCO WON’T BE NAMING THE VICTIM IN THIS CASE, AND FORMAL CHARGES HAVE NOT BEEN FILED AGAINST THE DAD. POLICE TELL US THEY DON’T BELIEVE ANY OTHER ARRESTS WILL BE MADE AT THIS POINT
