U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Air and Marine Operations (AMO) agents executed a daring rescue operation to save a migrant in distress, according to U.S. Customers and Border Protection.

On April 1, 2024, the Laredo Sector Border Patrol Dispatch responded to reports regarding four lost migrants in the vicinity and the Laredo Air Branch AS-350 aircrew sprang into action. Upon arrival, they spotted the group, with one individual lying motionless on the ground, seemingly unresponsive.

According to the migrants, the man had exhausted his water supply, resorting to drinking from nearby ponds and cattle tanks, which potentially harbored contaminated water. As a result, the group began experiencing symptoms of illness, with the distressed individual succumbing to incoherence and collapsing.

An AMO EMT administered first aid for severe dehydration and heat exhaustion. The individual gradually regained consciousness.

“Our agents remain ready to respond to situations like this,” stated Jonathan B. Taber, Director of Air and Marine Operations, Laredo Air Branch. “The ability of our agents to rapidly transition from a law enforcement role to conduct rescue operations where they can deliver immediate medical aid is crucial to saving lives.”

The migrant received further medical attention and evaluation in the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle.
