New mayor elected in Panama City Beach
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Residents have made their choice for the Panama City Beach mayor.
Out of 3,529 votes, Stuart Tettemer was elected as the winner, with 58% of the votes, unseating incumbent Mark Sheldon.
NewsChannel 7 was at Sheldon’s watch party when the results came in. The mood in the room became solemn, but Sheldon addressed his supporters in the room, saying they had fought hard and that he will continue supporting those in local government. Sheldon chose not to do an on-camera interview.
Shortly after, NewsChannel 7 went to the watch party of mayor-elect Tettemer, who said he wants all communities within Panama City Beach to be a part of the city’s decisions.
”Your city government should be representing you and I feel like the people here did not feel like they were being well-represented,” Tettemer said. “We ran a very honest campaign, we just made sure to be positive and talk about ideas. I think that’s why we were able to prevail.”
In addition to the mayor, Tuesday’s municipal election included two Callaway commission seats, the Mexico Beach recall election, council seats, and referendum questions on the ballot.
Results for those can be found here.
