SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A 28-year-old Akron woman was killed Monday morning after her SUV struck a concrete sign and then caught on fire.

The accident happened around 6:25 a.m. on Ghent Road.

Akron police said the woman was driving a Chevrolet Equinox southbound on Ghent Road when she failed to negotiate a curve, veered off the roadway and struck a sign in the 300 block of Ghent Rd.

The SUV caught fire under the hood, but the flames were quickly extinguished, said police.

The victim, whose name is not being released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the crash remains under investigation, but speed and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.
