The 2024 WNBA draft has concluded and the first round did not disappoint. The No. 1 overall pick was no surprise, in Iowa’s Caitlin Clark who was selected by the Indiana Fever. She joins 2023 No. 1 overall pick and 2023 WNBA Rookie of the Year, Aliyah Boston, in Indiana.
“When you’re just sitting at a table waiting for your name to be called, that really allows the emotions to feed you,” Clark said. “You’re with your family. Obviously, playing a basketball game, I’m not out there with my family. So sharing that moment with them and enjoying it, and people that have really had my back and believed in me more than anyone, is super special.”
International students South Carolina’s Kamilla Cordoso and UConn’s Aaliyah Edwards also went in the first round, while France’s Carla Leite and Leïla Lacan went back-to-back. Australia’s Nyadiew Puoch was the final pick in the first round.
Nine teams had picks in the first round, with the Dallas Wings, Chicago Sky and Los Angeles Sparks having two picks a piece.
