Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Says Emmet Sheehan Has Been Shut Down From Throwing Following Setback

The Dodgers have shut down starting pitcher Emmet Sheehan again.

According to manager Dave Roberts’ latest updates to reporters (including Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic), Sheehan has not been recovering the way the Dodgers’ training staff had hoped.

Sheehan did not participate in spring training after he was shut down early in camp, citing shoulder soreness.

He started throwing a few days after being shut down, but with the plan of having him start the year on the IL. The Dodgers transferred Sheehan to the 60-day IL at the start of the season with the hope of using most of that time to ramp him up.

Now they’ll have to wait much longer than anyone anticipated before Sheehan can pitch in 2024. Even if he started throwing soon, he probably would not be available until the All-Star break.

It’s unfortunate news for a promising pitcher the Dodgers were hoping could step in as the team’s fifth starter this year.
