North Penn YMCA sets kids up for a healthy start to the summer at Healthy Kids Day

Free and open to the public, this annual event features a day of fun-filled activities to celebrate kids being kids, and prepare for summer and camp

HARLEYSVILLE— Lansdale YMCA and Indian Valley YMCA, branches of the North Penn YMCA, will host the Y’s annual Healthy Kids Day on April 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Harleysville. The event was also held at the Lansdale branch on April 14.

These free community events are part of the YMCA’s national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families. Healthy Kids Day’s mission is to turn fun and play into lifelong memories, while providing parents and kids an opportunity to learn about summer day camp. Camp offers different themes each week. encouraging children to explore their interests and learn new things, while having fun and making friends.

Activities at the Lansdale YMCA Healthy Kids Day included a scavenger hunt, moon bounce, crafts, a visit from the Harleysville Bank’s Trusty Dog, family swimming, a duck race, indoor rock climbing wall, gymnastics, soccer, basketball drills, activities in the family fit zone, and free play in the e-gaming room and sports simulators.

At the Indian Valley YMCA, kids and families can enjoy playing pickleball, basketball, soccer and dodgeball, as well as yoga, Zumba, crafts, games, completing an obstacle course, bingo, a dance party and more.

“It is so important for kids to stay active over the summer, both physically and mentally,” said Cassie Digman, North Penn YMCA marketing director. “At the Y, we believe in providing resources for families to create healthy habits, no matter the time of year.
