Hundreds of mourners have attended the funeral of Bobbie McKee in Kilkeel, County Down.

Mr McKee, who was 69, was killed in his home on the town's Newcastle Road on 21 March. His wife Yvonne suffered serious head injuries in the same incident.

The funeral got under way at Mourne Presbyterian Church at 14:00 BST on Friday.

Moments before the service began dozens of additional chairs were brought into the church from an adjoining hall.

Last month, Mr McKee's 25-year-old son Colin appeared in Newry Magistrate's Court charged with his father's murder and the attempted murder of his mother.

He will appear in court again later this month.

In his sermon, Rev William Bingham said: "Today was not a day to focus on the circumstances of Bobbie's death but provides us with the opportunity to reflect on a Godly life, a faithful servant of Christ and this church and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and nephew and friend."

Rev Bingham said it was a "broken-hearted congregation" who were in "deep shock and with immense grief".

The minister said Mr McKee's life was "marked by gentleness and grace, service and sacrifice, humour and humility, thoughtful and very talented".

Following the service Mr McKee was laid to rest in the adjoining graveyard
