THIS IS BREAKING NEWS. A FORSYTH COUNTY SHERIFF DEPUTY IS IN THE HOSPITAL AFTER HE WAS HIT BY A CAR DURING A TRAFFIC STOP. WXII 12 MARIA DEBONE IS LIVE AT THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE. MARIA, HOW IS THE DEPUTY DOING THIS AFTERNOON? WELL, THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE TELLS ME THAT THE DEPUTY WAS CONSCIOUS AND ALERT WHEN TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. AND THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS THAT THAT DEPUTY’S INJURIES ARE NOT LIFE THREATENING. NOW, HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS THE DEPUTY WAS WORKING A TRAFFIC STOP THIS MORNING ON HIGHWAY 52 SOUTH AT WESTINGHOUSE ROAD AND MOORE RJR DRIVE. THAT’S NEAR TOBACCOVILLE. THAT’S WHEN INVESTIGATORS SAY A DRIVER SIDE SWIPED THE VEHICLE OF THE PERSON THE DEPUTY HAD PULLED OVER AND HIT THE DEPUTY AS WELL. THE DEPUTY WAS TAKEN TO WAKE FOREST MEDICAL CENTER, AGAIN WITH NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS DALLAS LEE MOSER WAS DRIVING THE CAR THAT HIT THE DEPUTY. HE IS CHARGED WITH CARELESS AND RECKLESS DRIVING. NOW, THE SHERIFF’S DEPUTY, THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS NO ONE ELSE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THIS AND WILL CONTINUE TO UPDATE ON AIR AND ONLINE WITH ANY NEW INFORMATION THAT WE GET. IT PROTECTS STATE TROOPERS AND OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, AS WELL AS OTHER EMERGENCY VEHICLES STOPPED ALONG HIGHWAYS. NOW, THE LAW REQUIRES DRIVERS IF THEY CAN SAFELY DO SO, TO MOVE ONE LANE AWAY FROM ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT THAT IS ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. NOW, IF THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE, DRIVERS MUST SLOW DOWN WHILE MAINTAINING A SAFE SPEED. THE LAW ALSO INCLUDES UTILITY VEHICLES THAT ARE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD DOING WORK.

A Forsyth County sheriff’s deputy was hit by a vehicle during a traffic stop Friday morning on U.S. 52 near Tobaccoville. The Forsyth County Sheriff's office said it happened around 7:25 a.m. on U.S. 52 south between Westinghouse Road and Moore-RJR Drive.The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the deputy was approaching a vehicle during the traffic stop when another vehicle hit the deputy. They said the driver hit the other vehicle also, before hitting the deputy.
