Patrick Mahomes a 2024 cover star for TIME's 100 most influential people list

The Kansas City Chiefs QB has again been named as one of the world's most influential people

Patrick Mahomes is continuing his historic run of greatness. On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was announced as one of TIME magazine's cover stars of the TIME 100.Mahomes' third selection to the list of the world's most influential people is a testament to his rare and exceptional talent. The QB is coming off his second consecutive Super Bowl win, the third of his career. As a starter, he's never been eliminated any earlier than the AFC Championship Game in the NFL Playoffs.According to TIME Magazine, the 28-year-old's influence extends far beyond the city, where he straps on a helmet and dazzles with his on-field play.Major League Baseball shortstop and third baseman Alex Rodriguez, a legendary athlete in his own right, wrote about the quarterback for TIME:"Patrick Mahomes has always had the heart of a champion. I remember Pat as a young kid, coming to practice with his dad to tee up baseballs for me and my teammates. I distinctly remember giving him the worst advice ever. 'Don't play football. The money's in baseball.' I'm happy to be wrong and glad he didn't listen! Patrick has transcended the game of football to become one of the most respected athletes of all time, both on and off the field. His insatiable desire to win is outdone only by his passion to give back and make the world around him better. Patrick's legacy will live on far beyond his playing days. And—as evidenced by his back-to-back Super Bowl wins—he's not done yet!"Mahomes discussed his career in an interview with TIME. He admitted that he was aware he was off to one of the greatest starts to a career for a quarterback in NFL history. Still, the quarterback says he still isn't anywhere near the conversation as the greatest of all time. "You have to build a consistency of a career. You see that in any sport. I've had a great run. I think I've done a great job so far. But it's hard to take away from what Tom did for so long," Mahomes said. "What Peyton Manning did, or Aaron Rodgers. There are so many guys, they were at such a high level for such a long time. In order to be in that conversation, you have to do that on a year-to-year basis. You can't take it for granted that you did it the year before. ... That's something I'll talk about when I'm done playing. Then people can make those decisions."In the sprawling interview with the magazine, Mahomes also discussed his family, Taylor Swift, his dad bod and more. You can read the full interview, here. This is the third time Mahomes has been named to TIME's Top 100, having also been chosen in 2020 and 2023.
