First Snow Of Season Reported At Ski Portillo, Chile

For North American skiers looking to extend their ski season, there's no better place than Ski Portillo in Chile. The resort posted "we've been getting our first sights of snow this week. Although it's early, we're super stoked for winter and hope it's a snowy one."

"Some weeks are already booked up, so make sure you secure your spot now if you wanna hit the slopes this summer!" See below.

Ski Portillo is known for its variation (along with, let's be honest, most ski areas in the world). The powder can sometimes be "dry" and light, and then other times coming down heavy and undesirable.

Regardless, the resort boasts 1235 acres of inbounds skiing, and there are plenty of backcountry options, to boot.

Ski Portillo opens on June 22nd this year, and typically stays open until late September, conditions permitting.

Ian Greenwood of POWDER reported that last season, Ski Portillo benefitted from a period of August snowfall that some called the "storm of the decade." By the storm's end, the resort had received 8.2 feet of snow, creating stellar skiing conditions.

The massive storm allowed Ski Portillo to extend its 2023 ski season a bit longer until October 1st and open rarely-skied terrain like the imposing Española chute.

Of course, the resort has not begun tallying up snowfall for this season, but it will kick into gear soon.

Regardless of if this season tops last year's snowfall, it will be a summer (winter?) to remember at Ski Portillo in Chile, and we're excited to see which skiers of note flock to the resort this time around.
