Philadelphia 76ers beat Spurs in 2OT without Joel Embiid

The Philadelphia 76ers overcame the absence of Joel Embiid to beat the San Antonio Spurs 133-126 in double overtime on Sunday night.

Embiid was ruled out due to left knee injury recovery after playing in Saturday night's win over the Grizzlies.

It's the first game Embiid has missed since returning to the court on Tuesday in a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. He had been sidelined for more than eight weeks following a procedure on the lateral meniscus in his left knee.

Tyrese Maxey picked up the slack, scoring a career-high 52 points in 54 minutes.

The win, the Sixers' fifth in a row, vaulted Philadelphia past Miami for the No. 7 spot in the Eastern Conference. They sit one game back of the Indiana Pacers for the No. 6 seed with games against the Pistons, Magic and Nets remaining.

Embiid has averaged 27.7 points in 28.2 minutes in his three games back.
