A BRITISH nanny was praised yesterday for saving footie star Harry Kane’s children in a three-car smash.

A young driver in a Renault cut across their people carrier to turn into a junction — crunching into its front and sending both vehicles spinning towards an oncoming Land Rover Defender.

Despite its airbags being triggered, the nanny calmly brought the £100,000 Mercedes to a halt, steering clear of the out-of-control Renault and avoiding careering into the 4x4.

The quick-thinking nanny, 24, was said to be “left terrified”.

England and Bayern Munich ace Kane’s daughters Ivy, seven, and Vivienne, five and his eldest son Louis, three, were taken to hospital in Germany but found to be unharmed.

A source told The Sun: “The Kane’s nanny did an incredible job of protecting the children.

“None of this is her fault. She might be on German roads, but she had right-of-way. It was the German driver who cut across her path and smashed into her.

“She would only have had milliseconds to react.

“You can see from the pictures it was a serious smash, but the Kane children would have felt nothing other than a bang. She really has averted disaster.”

The accident near Schaftlarn, south of Munich, came at 5.15pm on Monday — around the same time Kane and his team-mates arrived in London before their 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

Kane played and scored in Tuesday night’s Champions League game.

Local fire chief Daniel Buck said the family’s people carrier “had a lot of damage”.

He added: “The good news was nobody had really strong injuries, more minor injuries typical for a car accident. Thank God nobody was really injured. It was really lucky for all.”

The Renault driver, a 20-year-old woman, could be punished with a fine of as little as £150.

She could have been charged with “negligent assault” and, if anyone had been injured, faced up to three years behind bars.

But officers are said to be looking at the “lucky escape” as an accident.

A source insisted: “It was clearly the Renault that caused the crash. The Kanes’ Mercedes had right-of-way and the other driver has cut across the van.

“It doesn’t bear thinking about what might have happened if the nanny had been going any faster.

There was a crash, but the kids are fine, and none were injured

Kane's spokesman

“If anyone was injured the driver could be prosecuted. But incredibly, everyone was unharmed so she may well just get a fixed penalty notice.

“She must have been stunned when she found out she smashed into the Bayern star’s car.”

Kane, 30, is in his first season with the Munich giants after leaving Tottenham Hotspur for £82million and has scored 38 goals in 39 games.

His spokesman reassured fans: “There was a crash, but the kids are fine, and none were injured.

“No injuries at all. They went to hospital for a routine check-up.”

Kane’s wife Katie, 31, and their youngest child Henry, seven months, were not in the car.
