El Torito is honoring Taco Tuesday and Hispanic Heritage Month with free tacos

Tuesday is National Taco Day, and it coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month. The team at El Torito is honoring both with a range of menu specials and cultural initiatives. Part of the initiative includes art. Jose Valasquez, general manager for the El Torito in Cypress, told KTLA 5 Morning News the chain worked with local Hispanic artists to paint murals on the large bull in front of their restaurants. Diners can help support Hispanic and Latino students by rounding up their bill or donating a dollar while they dine at an El Torito location. Proceeds will go towards the Hispanic Scholarship Fund. The chain is also honoring six Hispanic employees who have been with the restaurant for decades, ranging from 16 years to 45 years. There may have been a lot of buzz surrounding last night’s Dodgers-Diamondbacks game, but one part of the Diamondbacks’ stadium was especially buzzing and caused the game to be delayed. The part of Chase Field in question was the top of the protective netting behind home plate, where a large bee colony appeared about five minutes before first pitch on Tuesday night, leading to the game being delayed from 6:45 p.m. to 8:35 p.m. It wasn’t all bad, however, as Diamondbacks fans gained a new hero in the ordeal. Violence erupts amid dueling demonstrations at UCLA

Police were noticeably absent when violence erupted on the campus of the University of California Los Angeles Tuesday night amid dueling protests over the Israel-Hamas war.

Dozens of pro-Israeli protestors, many wearing white masks and flags around their shoulders, arrived around 10:45 p.m. and began attempting to dismantle the encampment, deploying fireworks and what may have been bear spray.

At least one person was injured and was seen being carried away.

Police release footage of suspected shooter in Long …

The Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public's help in solving the murder of a 17-year-old girl last month. Briana Soto was fatally shot on March 26 near the intersection of 11th Street and Lewis Avenue, police said in the days following the attack.

On Tuesday, police released footage of the suspected shooter, and they're asking anyone with information to reach out to police. The dark-clad male was spotted on several security cameras in the area around the time of the shooting, though a mask covered his face.

16 injured after USC bus collides with Metro train …

A total of 16 people needed medical attention after a USC bus and a Metro train collided in Los Angeles late Tuesday morning.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the collision occurred at 11:54 a.m. on Exposition Boulevard between Normandie Avenue and Figueroa Street near the USC campus. The train involved was the Metro E line, which travels from Santa Monica to East Los Angeles. Around 150 passengers were on board.

Protesters in custody after Columbia University calls …

Officers took protesters into custody late Tuesday after Columbia University called in police to end the pro-Palestinian occupation on the New York campus.

The scene unfolded shortly after 9 p.m. as police, wearing helmets and carrying zip ties and riot shields, massed at the Ivy League university’s entrance. Officers breached Hamilton Hall, an administration building on campus, to clear out the structure.

The demonstrators had occupied Hamilton Hall more than 12 hours earlier, spreading their reach from an encampment elsewhere on the grounds that’s been there for nearly two weeks. A statement released by a Columbia spokesperson late Tuesday said officers arrived on campus after the university requested help.

Locals concerned over increase in deadly crashes …

Six people were killed in separate crashes on April 29 that happened within hours of each other and less than a mile apart on a stretch of Pearblossom Highway in the Antelope Valley in Southern California.

Five people were killed in a crash near 106th Street East on Sunday night. Monday's deadly crash involved a big rig and a Honda minivan. The crash left one person dead and was reported just before 5:30 a.m. on State Route 138 at Hampel Avenue in Pearblossom just half a mile from the first crash.
