Florida’s abortion ruling, explained
The Florida Supreme Court ruled that the state’s constitutional right to privacy doesn’t include abortion, clearing the way for a six-week abortion ban to go into effect in 30 days.
The catch: The justices also ruled that a measure to enshrine abortion rights in the state Constitution and overturn those restrictions could appear on the ballot in November. [Yahoo News]
A battleground: The Biden campaign believes the ruling could present an “opening” in Florida, where many say most abortions should be legal, but acknowledged it’s “not an easy state to win.” [New York Times]

3 QUESTIONS
...about your 2024 taxes
The federal tax deadline is coming up on April 15. I talked to personal finance writer Ronda Lee about what to expect if you haven’t filed yet — or if you’re waiting for your refund.
Lily: If people haven’t started their taxes yet, what’s a good first step to take today?
Ronda: I’d recommend you talk to a tax professional and consider requesting an extension to file. Heads up: You’ll need to submit that by April 15.
Lily: Are tax refunds smaller or larger this year?
Ronda: From what I’ve seen, tax refunds are a bit larger this year. The average refund is just over $3,000 based on the latest IRS stats.
Lily: How long will it take for people to get their tax refunds?
Ronda: The IRS tells taxpayers it will typically take 21 days after filing, but it takes longer when it’s closer to tax day.
