Daniel Rhodes was found guilty in March 2024 after a two-day trial for killing Michael McDowell.

(NOTE: The video above is from a previous report on multiple shootings in Indianapolis over the Fourth of July holiday weekend in 2021.)

On July 3, 2021, IMPD officers responded to an apartment in the 10000 block of Pineneedle Court, near 42nd Street and North Mitthoefer Road, for a person shot.

According to witnesses, Rhodes and McDowell were visiting the apartment. They also said Rhodes was acting paranoid and under the influence.

Rhodes told detectives he believed he was being setup for a robbery and that he thought McDowell had a gun. He admitted walking up to McDowell, as he was sitting on a couch, and shooting McDowell in the head.

Officers were able to find the rifle Rhodes used but found no other guns near McDowell or in the apartment.

The judge sentenced Rhodes to 62 years in the Indiana Department of Correction for the murder charge, as well as an additional 20 years for being a habitual offender.
