Ex-Blue Angels squad leader 'Boss' Wooldridge headlines men's breakfast event in Gulf Breeze

The sole airman to have led the U.S. Navy Blue Angels during three different show seasons will be the guest speaker at a men's breakfast event in Gulf Breeze Saturday.

Capt. Greg "Boss" Wooldridge retired from the Navy in 1997 after leading the Blue Angels during the 1991, 1993 and 1996 seasons and will give a talk at Gulf Breeze's Coastline Calvary Chapel Saturday morning at a men's breakfast event.

"It'll be a time for men to come together, just a way for men to connect" said Robert Gilliard, Coastline's communications director and worship leader.

Wooldridge told the News Journal that he'll be giving his perspective on his career and time leading the Blue Angels, as well as his "four-and-a-half-year dream" of creating a Blues documentary.

"I'm going to share with the men, young men and boys that are going to be there at the breakfast about how being in prayer moved (the movie) along, especially during the coronavirus and the setbacks," Wooldridge said. "(I'll share that) it was great to communicate with the Lord and what that meant to me, and what that has meant to me these last six years."

"The Blue Angels," a documentary filmed by IMAX and produced by J.J. Abrams and Glen Powell, features Wooldridge and will follow the "veterans and newest class of Navy and Marine Corps flight squadron as they go through intense training and into a season of heart-stopping aerial artistry," according to IMDB.

The film is set to release exclusively in IMAX theaters May 17 and will show until May 23. After its IMAX release, "The Blue Angels" will then be available to stream through Amazon Prime Video beginning May 23, according to Amazon MGM Studios.

Without giving away too much detail of his Saturday speech, Wooldridge said there have been times in his life that resulted in "second chances that popped their head up" that helped him survive a cardiac arrest and an inverted spin during a flight.

"That's what I want to share with them − someone like me, a knucklehead for a long time, finally saw the light," he said. "(I want to share) just how wonderful that new relationship has a been and maybe stoke some men in the audience."

The men's breakfast is open to the public and will take place at 8 a.m. at Coastline Calvary Chapel located at 1122 Oriole Beach Road. It costs $5 to register and scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuits and gravy will be served.
