Will Jordan Montgomery return to New York? The southpaw might have more than one option to do so.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees and Mets “apparently have not shut the door” on Montgomery.

Per Sherman: The Mets had a similar philosophy with Montgomery as another Scott Boras client, J.D. Martinez. They had a price in mind and if it ever fell to that they would act — as they did in signing a heavily deferred one-year, $12 million pact with Martinez. The Yankees have informed Boras what range they are comfortable with on Montgomery and the two sides did not seem in accord — even at this late date.
As a free agent last offseason, Montgomery signed a one-year, $10 million deal with the Cardinals last offseason and was shipped to the Rangers at the trade deadline. The 31-year-old posted a 3.20 ERA with 166 strikeouts over 32 starts in 2023.
Montgomery debuted with the Yankees in 2017 and was traded to St. Louis in 2022 for outfielder Harrison Bader. Montgomery has since proved to be a solid arm that can handle the postseason, and helped Texas to their first World Series championship last year. He made six playoff appearances (five starts) and put up a 2.90 ERA in 31 innings.
Montgomery has also been linked to the Red Sox in his free agency.
