In 1974, five years after New York City’s Stonewall riots, Seattle saw its first Pride parade, according to Seattle Pride. The small event, with fewer than 200 people, wasn’t recognized by the city.

Three years later, the Emerald City’s first official “Gay Pride Week” featured a 2,000-person parade, and today the celebration is known as one of the largest Pride parades in the country, with hundreds of thousands of participants each year.

To honor the 50th anniversary of Pride festivities in Seattle this June, The Seattle Times is looking to compile a list of LGBTQ+ changemakers who have left lasting impacts on our region. Who do you think should be on this list?

We’re looking for people who are from or at some point called the Seattle area home and influenced local policies and culture, whether in centuries past or recent years. As we research the numerous artists, politicians, activists, business owners and more who have bettered life for LGBTQ+ Washingtonians, we want community members’ input, too.

Fill out the form below by Monday, April 29, to nominate a changemaker.
