OSP I-5 traffic stop of Arizona man turns up 62 pounds of methamphetamine, 22,000 suspected fentanyl-laced pills

ROSEBURG, Ore. (KTVZ) – An Arizona man faces federal drug charges after a recent traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Roseburg turned up 62 pounds of methamphetamine and 22,000 suspected fentanyl-laced pills in his car, Oregon State Police reported.

A trooper pulled over a black Chevy sedan just after 9 a.m. Monday on northbound I-5 near milepost 149 for a traffic violation that troopers did not specify in Friday’s news release.

During the stop, the trooper suspected criminal activity and received the driver’s consent to search the car, OSP said.

After the drugs were found, the suspect, identified as Oliver Raul Alvarez Beltran, 21, of Phoenix, Arizona, “acknowledged the illegal substances were headed to Portland,” OSP said.

Alvarez was arrested and federally charged with attempted delivery of a controlled substance, OSP said, adding that the investigation is ongoing and no other information is available to release at this time.
