The Sandy Police Department's Crime Suppression Unit has been actively investigating multiple cases involving fentanyl distribution, authorities said.

In a statement posted to its social media Thursday, SCPD said a recent search of a suspicious vehicle netted more than 60 pills suspected to be fentanyl.

The department shared a photo of small, blue pills in a bag with a bright orange sticker reading: "SUSPECTED FENTANYL," presumably the pills found during the search.

"The Sandy Police Department is taking fentanyl cases very seriously and even (has) a detective assigned to work with federal prosecutors to investigate fentanyl overdose deaths," according to the statement.

Details on the suspicious vehicle, what prompted the search or when it happened were not shared. Utah court records from within the last week didn't show any fentanyl-related arrests out of Sandy, though the records aren't inclusive of federal or juvenile cases.

Authorities urged residents to report any information about drug distribution in their neighborhoods via the department's Tip Line at (801) 568-INFO or through the department's online tip form.

Tips can be submitted anonymously, police stated.
