The Housing First Minnesota Foundation is breaking ground Thursday on a new three-bedroom home in north Minneapolis, a project that will provide shelter for veterans experiencing homelessness.
The Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans will own and operate the home at 4230 Irving Ave N., according to a press release. Housing First Minnesota is partnering with the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans and homebuilder Lennar on the project.
Housing First Minnesota said the groundbreaking ceremony will also recognize two other supportive homes in Minneapolis for veterans in need. The dwellings are the 12th, 13th and 14th homes built as part of Housing First Minnesota’s Housing for Heroes initiative.
Each home will provide veterans with “stable housing and the supportive services necessary to transition into independent living, according to Housing First Minnesota, which adds that there’s a growing need for such housing.
The groundbreaking ceremony begins at 1 p.m.
