Basketball, soccer stars at Dixie High School sign to take their skills to the college level

ST. GEORGE — The Flyer Fam celebrated some of their own and said goodbye to a couple of Dixie High School’s favorite student-athletes.

In a ceremony in the lecture hall at Dixie Monday afternoon, long-time athletic director Mike Bair had to pause in his remarks and several other fans were caught up in the emotion of the moment when five Flyers signed letters of intent.

“This is bigger than basketball,” Dixie head basketball coach Tyler Roberts said. “Hopefully they can always know where their roots came from. I definitely bleed blue. I love Dixie, graduated here as well.

“So I know that they’ll go and represent Dixie High School, not only on the athletic field or court but also in the classroom,” he added, “and be that example that they need to be to others.”

From the basketball team, lifelong friends and teammates Jordan Roberts and Kyle Lemke will play at Snow College in Ephraim.

Lemke thanked his coaches, family and teammates for helping him get where he is. He said Ephraim is a great town and he’s excited to play with Jordan Roberts, or J-Rob, in college.

Jordan Roberts echoed his satisfaction that he’ll get to keep playing with Lemke at the next level and said he really likes the coaching staff at Snow. He thanked his parents for being with him on the ride.

Logan Weidauer, a key cog in Dixie’s undefeated run through Region 9 this year, is headed to Green River College in Auburn, Washington. The Gators play their home games at Tacoma Community College.

“I want to thank my parents and my coaches, just for getting me to this point,” Weidauer said. “I chose Green River because I got a couple other buddies who are most likely going to go there, and I really like the coaches there.”

He added that he is excited to go out of state and try something new.

The other two Dixie signees on Monday were soccer players Hali’a Pelton and Allee Williams,  who will take their talents across the state line to Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, Colorado.

Williams spent much of her senior year recovering from injury. She said she’s been involved with sports since she was little, and she’s happy that she gets to keep playing and furthering her education.

“We know a few girls who are going there, so it’s going to be a really cool experience,” Pelton said. “I’m super grateful for all my coaches and my teammates especially, for making me love the sport.”

As previously reported in St. George News, Colorado Northwestern Community College will feature a significant Region 9 influence as no fewer than nine local players have now signed to play soccer for the Spartans.
