When do Shawnee County pools open in 2024?

TOPEKA (KSNT) – With things heating up in Shawnee County, you might be wondering when the local pools are due to open.

27 News asked Shawnee County Parks and Recreation (SCP+R) when locals can start cooling off at its pools in 2024. Cory Hollar, spokesman for SCP+R, says the department plans to open all pools Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 25.

The pools will operate with the same schedules as in 2023. Aquatic centers will be open from noon to 7 p.m. daily while community pools will be open from noon to 5 p.m. daily. Adventure Cove at Lake Shawnee is open from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Monday. Admission fees for pools include the following:

  • Community pools – $3

  • Swim beach – $3

  • Adventure Cove inflatable playground – $8 per hour

  • Blaisdell Family Aquatic Center, Shawnee North Family Aquatic Center and Midwest Health Aquatic Center

    • Ages 2-12 – $6

    • Ages 13 and up – $7

Hollar says the new pool currently under construction in the Oakland neighborhood may not be finished in time for swimmers to enjoy it in 2024. The project has an estimated completion date set around the end of July but could change depending on weather conditions.
