INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man was sentenced after killing a man at a traffic stop in 2020, according to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

Keith Cole was sentenced to 63 years for the Oct. 8, 2020, murder of Daniel Baxter. Baxter was shot and killed while sitting at a stoplight at East 30th St and North Keystone Ave.

On the evening of the shooting, an officer saw that Baxter’s vehicle had crashed in the northeast corner of an intersection on North Keystone. Baxter was unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. Multiple witnesses at the scene described the murderer as Cole.

Video of the incident showed Baxter in his vehicle stopped at the traffic light on East 30th St. when a Black Dodge Charger pulled up directly behind him, a man exited the passenger side of the Charger, and shot the victim five times.

Cole fled the scene but was identified by surveillance.

Cole was convicted by a three-day jury trial in March. Read more about the story here.
