Saregama, India’s oldest label, launches AI-powered music learning app, Padhanisa

Saregama, which claims to be India’s oldest music label, has ventured into music education, unveiling an artificial intelligence-powered mobile app called Padhanisa.

The app is designed to make Indian vocal music learning accessible and engaging for users globally, Saregama said Monday (April 1).

The app also lets users share their singing videos with the chance to be spotted by Saregama under the label’s Talent Hunt program.

Padhanisa aims to bridge the gap for aspiring singers who lack access to qualified teachers or feel hesitant due to judgment, Saregama said. This app functions as a personalized singing coach, catering to individual needs and goals.

Saregama says that the app uses “advanced algorithms and machine learning”.

It assesses users’ vocal range, suggests personalized warm-up exercises, and adjusts lesson plans based on users’ progress and preferences. After each session, users will receive a comprehensive performance analysis to track their improvement.

Padhanisa goes beyond pre-recorded lessons as it offers live masterclasses led by music subject matter experts, providing a platform to ask questions during interactive Q&A sessions.

“Padhanisa is an obvious extension from Saregama. The insight of the app comes from the fact that all Indians’ love to sing, be it any occasion or just to feel happy.”

“We truly believe that there are no bad singers, but just untrained ones. So, here we are with an AI based app which trains you to sing in Sur. All you got to do is download the Padhanisa App and start your personalized music learning journey.”

Saregama says Padhanisa caters to singers of all levels including novice singers taking their first steps in the world of Indian vocal music or seasoned performers looking to refine their skills.

The app, now available on the App Store and on Google Play, offers various subscription plans, including monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual options. Users can also explore the app’s features with a free seven-day trial.

The launch of Saregama’s new offering comes six months after the company acquired a 51.8% stake in Indian digital entertainment company Pocket Aces in an all-cash deal valued at 1.74 billion Indian rupees (approx. USD $20.9 million).

Saregama, formerly The Gramophone Company of India, claims to own nearly 50% of all the music ever recorded in India. Saregama was founded in 1902.

In 2020, Spotify signed a licensing deal with Saregama that saw 100,000 songs from the record company’s catalog added to Spotify in India.
