On Friday, April 5, at ATU Sligo, a doughty display by the Ballinrobe Town U14 girls’ team proved in vain as they suffered a 3-0 loss at the hands of their hosts, Carrick Town. U15 Connacht Rugby Cup semi-final

The Ballinrobe U15 boys’ team suffered defeat at the hands of Sligo RFC in what was a very competitive Connacht Cup semi-final encounter, played at The Green, on Sunday week last.

Sligo RFC ran out 22-12 victors on the day, claiming four tries in the process, however, the scoreline was slightly harsh on the home side as Ballinrobe played with plenty of vim and vigour in front of a large and vocal attendance.

The Yeats county outfit have gained plenty of experience in recent years having competed at a very high level and have also contested major finals. Ballinrobe actually led 12-10 at the interval and the black and white dared to dream that a provincial final ticket was in the offing, with their first half tries coming from Finn O’Connor and Noah Donnelly, with the latter also chipping in with a conversion.

The wet and windy weather conditions tested the resolve of both teams during the second half, with Ballinrobe desperately trying to build on their impressive first half display, but the home side couldn’t muster another try.

Sligo regrouped and finished the tie impressively, with a late five pointer helping to gloss the score-line for the visitors.

The players to impress for the gutsy hosts on the day were; Alex Coleman, Ethan Biggins, Daniel Crehan, Noah Donnelly, Cian Watson, Caoimhín Murphy, Muiris Vahey and Ryan McCormack.

Ballinrobe Rugby Club thank Kreations Kitchens for kindly sponsoring tops for the U15 boys’ team.
