Ohio leads nation in tornadoes in 2024: Here's where numbers stand
Spring is in full swing, which also means it's severe storm season.
Ohio has already seen its fair share of storms this season with a few outbreak events.
So far this year, Ohio leads the country with the most tornadoes at 38. Florida has the second most with 34, followed by Illinois with 30, Kentucky with 24 and Indiana with 22.
Overall, this year, we have had more favorable weather pattern to bring us more strong to severe storms and tornadoes in the Midwest. But activity could begin to ramp up with activity through the next few months.
Deadly storms ripped through Logan County, Ohio, in March, killing three people and leaving a trail of destruction.
Logan County is located in west central Ohio, about 70 northwest of Columbus. The area of Indian Lake is a popular destination for families across Ohio.
The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-3 tornado tore through the area.
According to Logan County Sheriff Randall Dodds, three people died in the storms, and several others were injured.
Significant damage could be seen to structures across the area, with windows blown out of buildings and poles through the roofs of several structures.
Earlier this month, multiple confirmed tornadoes touched down in the Greater Cincinnati area as strong storms swept through the region.
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF-1 tornado hit Adams County on April 2.
The NWS also confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down in Mason County, Kentucky on that day. The tornado started near Minerva, Kentucky and lifted near the Ohio River, according to the NWS survey.
The hardest hit areas were in eastern Ohio in West Union and Ripley.
