RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Police in Raleigh said a man was critically injured in a daytime shooting along New Bern Avenue Saturday evening.

The incident was reported at a home around 7 p.m. in the 1000 block of New Bern Ave., which is between Pettigrew Street and Poole Road, according to the Raleigh Police Department.

The man who was wounded was shot in the chest and taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The resident of the home where the shooting happened was detained and is cooperating with officers in their investigation, police said.

Earlier Saturday evening, several Raleigh police officers were at the scene, which closed some lanes and was impacting traffic along New Bern Avenue, about a mile east of downtown Raleigh.
