Bayonne firefighters made quick work of a blaze inside an apartment building on Prospect Street Friday morning, allowing most of the residents to return to their homes, Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said.
Responded firefighters who arrived at 10:53 a.m. found heavy smoke inside the three-story building at 205 Prospect and located fire in the rear of the building, which is attached to a similar structure, Weaver said. Crews used two handlines to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control at 11:40 a.m.
All occupants of both 205 and 203 Prospect Avenue were safely evacuated. One apartment with two residents had been deemed temporarily uninhabitable by the Building Department and those tenants are under the care of the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross.
No injuries were reported and an investigation is underway.
“Our firefighters used a fast and aggressive attack to keep this fire contained to the outside walls, which is allowing most occupants of both buildings to return home today,” Weaver said.
