Weather warnings in the northeast with up to 25 cm snow, 40 mm rain expected
A spring storm is bringing another blast of winter to the northeast as weather alerts across the northeast are upgraded to rainfall and snowfall warnings.
With the falling temperatures, rain turned to snow Wednesday morning and will continue into the evening.

Communities nears lakes Huron and Superior will mostly see rain with heavy wind gusts of up to 80 km/h while areas north of the Highway 17 corridor, including Greater Sudbury and Elliot Lake, will see more snow.

Snowfall warnings
Total snowfall amounts of 15 to 25 centimetres are expected, particularly north of Sudbury and Elliot Lake, Environment Canada said in a weather alert.
"Peak snowfall rates of two to four cm/h," the alert said.
"For areas farther south along the Highway 17 corridor, including Greater Sudbury and Elliot Lake, precipitation may continue as a mix of rain and snow, with a changeover to all snow not likely until this evening. As a result, snowfall amounts in this corridor will likely be less."
Rapidly accumulating snow could make surfaces slippery and travel difficult.
Rainfall warnings, strong winds
Heavy rain is expected into Wednesday evening with between 25 and 40 mm expected between just east of Bruce Mines to Mattawa, including Manitoulin Island down to Parry Sound and Huntsville.
Flooding is a concern as "the frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall," Environment Canada said.
"Strong easterly winds will continue tonight into early this morning with wind gusts up to 80 km/h for Manitoulin Island and surrounding areas. The winds will ease by this afternoon. Isolated power outages will be possible," the weather alert said.
"Rain should transition to snow this afternoon or evening as temperatures cool. Several centimetres of accumulation are likely by the time the precipitation tapers off on Thursday."
