MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) - Michigan State Police believe an Imlay City man was intoxicated when he allegedly caused a head-on crash that claimed the life of a dirt bike rider on Monday evening.

Investigators say the 55-year-old suspect was driving a Ram pickup truck south on Brown Road south of Reid Road in Macomb County's Bruce Township around 8:45 p.m. He pulled into the northbound lane to pass another southbound vehicle.

Michigan State Police say the Ram slammed head-on into a dirt bike traveling north on Brown Road. An ambulance rushed the dirt bike rider, identified as a 53-year-old man from Romeo, to an area hospital and he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested the pickup truck driver, who was not injured, on drunken driving charges. Investigators will present reports about the crash to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office, which will decide whether to file charges.

"Another family is mourning the loss of a loved one due to a preventable traffic crash," said Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw. "There are too many options available to get behind the wheel impaired. Please do not drink and drive."

The suspect remained in the Macomb County Jail on Tuesday morning.
