CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island State of Rhode Island Department of Corrections (RIDOC) announced that a woman died Sunday just hours after being committed to their facility.

Chief of Information of Public Relations and Public Information Officer J.R. Ventura said officers went to check on the woman around 3:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, Ventura said officers observed no response from her and called for medical assistance.

The woman, who is not being identified, was transported to the hospital with ” very faint vital signs.” She was later pronounced dead.

The incident is under investigation by the Rhode Island State Police and the Department of Corrections Investigative Unit.
