A local treasure hunter, Ken Smith, has reunited a Connecticut family with a missing class ring dating back to the 1940s."This is my handy dandy Garrett 18 max metal detector," said Smith as a local TV station shadowed him on one of his treasure-hunting trips.Smith spends a lot of his spare time looking for treasure. Over the past few years, he's found everything from coins to British belt buckles dating back to the late 1700s. Earlier this month, he came across his most meaningful find yet."We were up on this hill here where these little trees are planted and I just came across a promising signal," Smith said. "A couple inches down with my little trowel I unearthed the ring," Smith added.The ring is from the class of 1946 at Stamford High School, with the initials F-C-L engraved on it. Smith called the principal at Stamford High and the school found the woman whom the ring belonged to — Freda Charles Lecuras. Sadly, Lecuras had passed away.Smith gave the ring to her daughter, Kathi Moschos."I just don't know what to say. And when he brought the ring I just felt like I got a piece of her. You know I wanted to call her up and say we found your ring, Mom," said Moschos.
