Man kills wife, himself at Lehigh County home

Roy T. Knieriem, 76, fatally shot his wife, Helen Teresa Knieriem, 76, then killed himself Thursday at their home in the 2300 block of Taylor Drive, Upper Saucon Township, authorities said. According to a news release from District Attorney Gavin Holihan, police officers responding to a 911 call found the couple dead from a single gunshot wound each. Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio said in a news release that Helen Knieriem was shot by her husband, who then shot himself. Helen Knieriem’s death was ruled a homicide and Roy Knieriem’s death was determined to be a suicide, Buglio said.

Allentown teen dies after being hit by vehicle in Whitehall Township

Emmanuel Gboyah, 15, of Allentown died after being hit by a car about 8:25 p.m. Monday night in the 1100 block of MacArthur Road in Whitehall Township, according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio. Emmanuel was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, where he died from his injuries. Buglio ruled his death accidental. Whitehall police, the Lehigh County Crash Team and the DA’s office are investigating.

Volvo decides to build some Mack Trucks in Mexico

The Volvo Group announced Thursday afternoon it will build a heavy-duty truck plant in Mexico to supplement North American fabrication, while making further investments in two U.S. plants, including Mack Trucks Lehigh Valley Operations in Lower Macungie Township. Despite a promise that its Lehigh Valley plant and another factory in Dublin, Virginia will remain its main production sites for heavy trucks in North America, the decision drew criticism from the union representing 2,300 workers at the Lower Macungie facility.

Driver dies after crash on Rt. 145 in Northampton County

A dump truck driver died after a crash Tuesday morning on Route 145 in Lehigh Township. According to a news release from Northampton County coroner Zachary Lysek, the driver, Lincoln P. Brown, 52, of Selinsgrove, was traveling south on the highway when the crash occurred. Brown died from the injuries he suffered in the crash, and the manner of death was accidental, according to Lysek.

Former President Trump sets rally in Lehigh Valley

Former President Donald Trump’s first Lehigh Valley campaign rally in support of a 2024 presidential bid was expected to begin Saturday evening at the Schnecksville Fire Hall on Old Packhouse Road in North Whitehall Township. Trump will face President Joe Biden in the November general election, and recent polls in Pennsylvania indicate a close race between the two nominees. Pennsylvania, a key swing state, has 19 electoral votes, tied with Illinois for the fifth most votes that could determine the presidency.
