ATV driver from Nederland dies in Newton County crash

Newton County — Newton County — A 21-year-old man from Nederland died when his ATV crashed into a car on Highway 87 in Newton County, according to information the Texas Department of Public Safety provided to KFDM/Fox 4 News.

The DPS identifies the man as Kaleb Harvey.

Troopers were called to the scene shortly after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 87 where it intersects with County Road 3110.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates Harvey was driving a Kawasaki ATV and traveling north, while the driver of a Nissan Versa was traveling south. It is reported that the ATV was traveling in the oncoming lane and was struck by the Nissan.

Harvey, the operator of the ATV, died at the scene. A justice of the peace has ordered an autopsy.

The driver of the Nissan, identified as 51-year-old James Pennington of Newton, wasn't hurt.
