Jefferson man died in single-car wreck Sunday: NCSHP

JEFFERSON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A 58-year-old Jefferson man died in a single-vehicle collision on Sunday night, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Randy Thomas Pennington died Sunday, April 14, around 9:45 p.m. They said Pennington was traveling on Low Gap Road near Noel Drive when his Honda Pilot drove off the right side of the road, struck a tree, and caught on fire.

Low Gap Road was closed for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation.

The initial investigation does not indicate excessive speed or impairment as contributing factors in the collision, Highway Patrol said.
