Chase involving stolen car ends with three arrested in Berkley

BERKLEY, Mass. (WLNE) — A high-speed chase involving a stolen car ended with three suspects arrested in Berkley on Wednesday.

The Massachusetts State Police Department said Fall River residents Lijah Fortes, 27, Alexia Springer, 21, and Kobe West, 19 were charged after the pursuit.

Officials said the chase began around 3 p.m. when troopers attempted to stop a car reported as stolen.

The car fled and merged onto Route 79, eventually making its way to Route 24, where it was located by a State Police helicopter.

The vehicle was tracked into a residential neighborhood in Berkley, at which time officers blocked both exits.

The three occupants ditched the car and ran into the woods, where they were caught within a few minutes.

Police said Fortes, Springer, and West were all charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

West, the driver, faces the following additional charges:

  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked Driver’s License
  • Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop for Police
  • Marked Lanes Violation
  • Speeding

Officials added that West was also wanted on five outstanding warrants for his arrest.
