WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The National Building Museum is hosting “The Big Draw,” a free art event, on Saturday.

“The National Building Museum’s goal is to inspire curiosity about the world around us that we design and build,” said Sheridan Small, Senior Manager of Youth & Community Programs at the National Building Museum.

Small said the museum is doing just that this weekend through The Big Draw. The free, day-long festival invites people to discover the world through drawing. Visitors will be able to contribute to a community mural, complete quick drawing prompts and attend talks with engineers, architects and designers.

“We’ll have two authors and illustrators who are featured in that exhibition leading workshops,” said Small. “We’ll have drop-in activities and all the exhibitions will also be open for free for the whole family.”

Small says you can bring your own sketchbook or use paper and pencils that the museum will provide.

The museum’s event on April 20 is one of the 12 days this year the museum is offering free admission.

“This is part of our mission to give back to the community and we’re excited to continue this in 2025 [when] we’ll have another 12 free days,” said Small.
