Lake County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a Concord Township residence in reference to a man who had reportedly attempted to commit suicide after killing his girlfriend.

According to Chief Deputy Robert Izzo in a post on Facebook, deputies arrived on scene on the evening of April 12 and found a 54-year-old male in his garage, bleeding excessively from numerous self-inflicted knife wounds.

Further investigation of the scene found a 47-year-old woman inside the residence deceased.

It was later learned that the man and woman had been involved in a relationship, and resided at the location together. Initial investigation revealed the man killed the woman by means of strangulation and suffocation, and then attempted to commit suicide unsuccessfully, the post stated.

The man was transported to TriPoint Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. The victim succumbed to her injuries at the scene, according to the post.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that this matter remains under investigation at this time.
