HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Rainbow Warriors volleyball team begins its quest for a third straight Big West Championship.

Coming off of a regular season ending loss to UC San Diego, the ‘Bows are now set to host the Big West Championships this weekend at the Stan.

Facing off with UC Santa Barbara on Thursday.

With the adversity they’ve dealt with this season, the team is sharp and more determined than ever to make another run.

“Win or lose, we positively gain value from every single game and, you know, the bigger the setback we have, the better we have for motivation for the next game.” UH’s Alakai Todd told reporters.

While maintaining the health of the roster as injuries have been the talk of the team this year.

“Even if it was only two nights, this time of year, there is a finite number of jumps left in these guys, right?” Head coach Charlie Wade said. “So you can’t be crushing them earlier in the week and in a week like this where there’s a potential third match, yeah, we’re paying attention to it.”

SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center will serve as the setting for this year’s tournament.

A familiar experience for lower campus, having hosted in 2019, 2021 and 2022. The ‘Bows would end up winning it all two out of those three years.

“It’s going to be super important to have the fans here and I think we’ll have a good turnout of fans Thursday, Friday, Saturday hoping that we go that far,” Todd said. “You know, we’re preparing for the whole entire weekend.”

“a year like this, we need all the help we can get and you know, several thousand of our closest friends, we’re looking forward to playing in front of.” Wade said.

First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. Hawaii time with the game being televised on Spectrum Sports.
